In order to ascertain the influence of height of blood column upon erythrocyte sedimen tation rate in domestic animals, variation rate with the change of height were calculated: Height variation rate=A-B/10(mm) where, A=(ESR at a height of 200mm+ESR at a height of 250mm +ESR at a height of 300mm)/3 B=(ESR at a height of 100mm+ESR at a height of 150mm +ESR at a height of 200mm)/3 The results obtained are shown in Fig. 1 in Japanese text. Height variation rate decreased in early stage of blood sinking and then increased. The correlation between erythrocyte sedimentation types and height variation rate are shown in Fig. 2. The change of variation rate seems to be in close connection with the erythrocyte sedimentation types. Moreover, variation ratio with the change of 10mm in height of blood column were calculated: Height variation ratio=Height variation rate/ESR at a height of 200mm in blood column (%) The results obtained are shown in Table l and Fig. 3 in the text. Influence of height of blood column upon erythrocyte sedimentation rate seems to be small in quantity.
