Exchangeable cations and cation exchange capacity were determined on the soils taken from both upper and lower horizons of decayed tea gardens in the tea. producing country along the upper stream of the Ôi (Kawane district, Shizuoka Prefecture).
In this country, the mesozoic and diluvial soils are distributed.
The mesozoic soil (Mikura stratum soil) was very poor in base content, especially in potassium and had very small cation exchange capacity as a result of severe leaching clay.
the diluvial soil showed non-erosive with respect to various morphological properties. However, the soil was very strongly acid in reaction, according to heavy leaching and the degree of base-saturation ranged from 25 to 50 per cent.
