Several 1-(5'-substituted phenyl-1',3',4'-oxadiazol-2'-yl)-3-chloro-4-substituted-2-azetidinones were synthesized by annulation of an acid on anils using POCl_3 and Et_3N and of an acid chloride on anils using Et_3N. Their antibacterial and antifungal activities are reported, and based on screening data attempt is also made to elucidate the structure-activity relationship.
