[原著]Effects of dipeptides containing L-glutamic acid on the excitability of identifiable giant neurones of the African giant snail (Achatina fulica Ferussac).

In a fine series of pioneering works, Kakimoto, Kanazawa, Nakajima, Sano et al.^<1-6)> reported the presence of many dipeptides, especially those containing L-glutamic acid, in the mammalian central nervous systems. However, the physiological roles of these peptides have not yet been investigated. Takeuchi, Tamura et al^<15-18)> demonstrated using the two identifiable giant neurones (TAN, tonically autoactive neurone and PON, periodically oscillating neurone) of the Afncan giant snail (Achatina fulica Ferussac) that the two aromatic dipeptides, L-Phe-L-Tyr and LPhe-L-Trp, had a marked inhibitory effect on neuronal excitability, and that the tripeptide, $ \gamma $-LGlu-L-Phe-L-Tyr, had a stronger effect than the two aromatic dipeptides mentioned above. Besides, it was also reported by Takeuchi, Yokoi et al.^<20, 22-24)> that some derivatives of L-glutamic acid (L-Glu), for example, erythro-$ \beta $ hydroxy-L-Glu, had a remarkable inhibitory effect, although neither LGlu nor D-Glu had any effect on the same neurone. In the present study, we examined effects of L-Glu-containing dipeptides on the excitability of the two identifiable giant neurones (TAN and PON) of Achatina fulica Ferussac Some of the dipeptides examined have been demonstrated to exist in the central nervous systems.
