1) Internal structure of P. thunbergii and P. densiflora seeds during the developmental period after ovule growth was observed by making use of X-ray photographs. On the basis of these observations a process of embryogeny was divided into several stages and the duration of each stages was fixed. The time of fertilization was at late June in P. thunbergii and mid-June in P. densiflora. The duration of early embryogeny in both pines extended for 10 to 15 days and the followion duration of embryonic differentiation for about 50 days. In the latter stage the differentiation of embryonic tissues progressed for 10 to 15 days and then the growth of cotyledon continued for 35 to 40 days.
