This is a life story of an international student from an African country. In the last few months of his study in Japan, he has told his story to the author in English. John Angutsa (pseudonym) was born and raised in a rural community far from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. He received his primary and intermediate education there and studied at the Department of Engineering of Nairobi University. He was trained as a land surveyer and worked for the government from 1990 to 94. Then, he was granted a scholarship from the government of Holland to study fbr the master's degree for two years.He went back to his country and was reemployed by the government and also worked at an institute of surveying and mapping established by JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency). His relationship with JICA made it possible for him to apply to the fellowship offered by the Japanese government.He was granted the fellowship and came to Mie University in 2000. He studied at Mie University for over three years for Ph.D.overcoming the problems including the loneliness being away from his family. As a Christian, his human relationship developed through Church.He is determined to go back to his country which is the only place he can truly feel at home.
