四肢長骨の長さと太さによる性別判定

現代日本人上腕骨，橈骨，大腿骨および脛骨の最大長と骨幹中央周を用いた判別分析による性別判定法について検討し，さらにその縄文時代人骨への適用の可能性について調べ以下の結果を得た．1）中間点法による単項目ごとの的中率は橈骨最大長と上腕骨骨幹中央周で84．7％，86．7％と高率である．2）全8項目からの判別式では87.8％の的中率が得られた．また，骨幹中央周に関する分析では上肢骨（上腕骨と橈骨）からの判別式の的中率は88.8％で高く，一方下肢骨（大腿骨と脛骨）からのそれは73．5％とやや低い．3）現代人骨の骨幹中央周から得られた判別式に縄文時代人骨を適用してみると，的中率は一般に現代人の場合より10％程度低下したが，これは縄文時代人骨と現代人骨の計測値の差による境界値のずれに起因すると考えられる．For the purpose of sex assessment, the discriminant analysis was applied to eight measurements of maximum length and mid-shaft circumference of long bones (humerus, radius, femur and tibia) in recent Japanese. By means of the midpoint method, both variable in paticular, the length of radius and the circumference of humerus was high effective of 84.7% and 86.7% accuracy in sexing respectively. The discriminant effect from 8 all measurements was 87.8%. The effect derived from the circumference was slightly higher than that from the length. In the analysis of the circumference alone, it was found that the function from two measurements of humerus and radius could give relatively high 88.8% accuracy in determining sex, but that from femur and tibia lower 73.5%. When the functions derived from combinations of circumferences of recent Japanese were applied to the Jomon materrials, the correct discrimination rates to the original sex increased in males, but on the contrary decreased in females. After all, the decrease of about 10% in the effects of the functions, compared to recent Japanese, was generally found. This finding may indicate that the measurements in the Jomon are greater than those in recent Japanese, and that the shiftings of the boundary values of sexing were brought by the differences between the two periods. We must pay careful attention to the application to the Jomon bones of the discriminant functions derived from those of recent Japanese.
