Righting responses in erect posture were tested in 220 patients with complaining vertigo by means of static function tests, such as Romberg test, Mann's test and Goniometer test. Righting responses (body movements) were recorded by acceleration registrography. Acceleration registrogram (ARC) obtained by the tests were divided into six types by method of Honjo and Ishihara. Sixty nine patients (31.4%) belonged to type I, presenting normal righting response. Eighty patients (36.4%) belonged to type II, 19 patients (8.6%) to type III, 37 patients (16.8%) to type IV, 5 patients (2.3%) to type V, and 10 patients (4.5%) to type VI. In the majority of patients, the more the righting responses are discribed, the more incidence of abnormal responses in vestibular and optokinetic nystagmus increase. Patients with an identical diagnostic category do not belong the same type, but divide into a few types.
