Throughout the last decade, overlay multicast is a hot issue for multicast services. High bandwidth multi-source multicasting among widely distributed networks is a critical capability for a wide range of applications including audio and video conferencing, multi-party games and content distribution. A number of research projects have explored the use of multicast as an efficient and scalable mechanism to support such group communication applications. However, there are also many limitations, including long latency, duplicate packets at certain points, due to which the internet could not perform an efficient data transmission. Along with Open Flow technical comes to the world, it is possible to do some optimization for the existing multicast relay in overlay network. In this case, we propose a method to optimize the traditional overlay multicast relay network with the support of Open Flow switches, aiming to cut down the bandwidth expenditures and perform a good multicast service for multimedia data.
