Traumatic head injury is the most common precipitating cause of traffic death and higher brain dysfunction in the traffic accidents. Subdural hematoma has a high mortality rate in traumatic head injury. Many studies have been conducted about relationship the external force and subdural hematoma, however, there are few studies about superior cerebral veins which are one of the factors in subdural hematoma. To measure the fracture elongation of veins and the displacement between the brain and the dura mater when veins fractured, we conducted the tensile test using porcine superior cerebral veins. The veins were elongated axially by pulling the dura mater from the brain at strain rate of 0.042-4.2s-1.The mean percentage of elongation of veins for all strain rates was 1.65, and the veins fractured when the displacement between the brain and the dura mater was more than 5mm. Furthermore, we showed the need to consider the displacement of the tissue such as the pia mater surrounding veins.
