Among the organic conducting polymers, polythiophene, polypyrrole and their derivatives have attracted great interest, because of their high electrical conductivity, chemical stability and environmental stability and compatibility. Many studies have paid the attention to prepare the functionalized conducting film by immobilization some functional materials during the electropolymerization in aqueous media, or being hybridized with nanomaterials to enhance their conductivity or catalytic effect. In this study, the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) prepared by sonochemical method were described. It was found that much higher enhancement factor of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) could be achieved with AuNPs prepared by sonochemical method for polythiophene, polypyrrole and their derivatives, compared with those prepared by a conventional wet method with trisodium citrate. SERS spectra of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) indicated that EDOT was adsorbed strongly on AuNPs if the stabilizer was absent in the system. Based on the characteristic adsorption of EDOT to AuNPs, amount of hydrophobic monomers, such as EDOT, 6-hexylthiophene and 1-methylpyrrole became soluble in AuNPs solution. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of the AuNPs / conducting polymer hybrid films electropolymerized in aqueous solutions containing the solubilized monomers and AuNPs.
