It is recognized that ,3 2micro-globulin (BMG) accumulation is a major cause of dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA). An adsorbent column, BM-01, was developed for direct hemoperfusion to remove BMG. Eleven DRA patients underwent treatment using the BM01 column in combination with a dialyzer thrice weekly for more than six months. The mean reduction rate of BMG was approximately 70%. Ten out of 11 patients expressed less joint pain and improved mobility. These results suggest that BM-01 is useful for BMG elimination under clinical conditions.
