The volume of "Nihon Nousho Zenshu" (total of 72 volumes, Rural Culture Association) was published in 1999 and the index volume, "Nihon Nousho Zenshu, Bekkan" (total of one volume, Rural Culture Association) was published in 2001. It is a notable publication activity for Japanese agricultural literature recently, and it is the remarkable collection of complete works in the industry. The issue of "Nihon Nousho Zenshu" is the excavation and the republication of agricultural literature, and also the reaching point of studying agricultural books for which government-and-people have continuously made effort to accomplish since the Meiji first year. The data in the volume are the reference of 313 affairs including seasonal agricultural works and farmers' life in various regions from northern Hokkaido to southern Okinawa in Edo. "Nihon Nousho Zenshu" was published through the planning by Rural Culture Association, the nonprofit foundation who aimed at development of farm village culture and wished people in agriculture industry to read the book. Therefore, the lifeline of "Nihon Nousho Zenshu" is the translation of ancient sentences into modern language. And this has enabled the volume to be read comprehensively, by farmers, teachers, and salary men not to mention the history researchers. It is obvious that more than a few people are looking for a viewpoint in the book for discussing the society and the agriculture of present Japan. The members who took charge of reprinting, making notes, translating the sentences into modern language, and bibliographical introduction amounted to 296 persons. The "Nihon Nousho Zenshu" is the common artifact created by crystallization of people who had deep concern in agricultural literature in Japan in the end of the 20th century. Publication of the "Nihon Nousho Zenshu" is the reviving of agricultural literature, the classical books for Japanese agriculture industry into the present age.
