In this study, stabilizer-free gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were prepared by the sonochemical reduction of the aqueous solution of HAuCl_4 using a 490-kHz sonochemical reactor. The spherical nanoparticles with diameters of 5-10 nm were observed in the as-grown stage, and they were coalesced immediately to form nanoprisms with triangular or pentagonal shape when 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) was added in the solution. Since the gold nanoprisms exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity to some biological substances, these nanoprisms could be applied to fabricate the electrochemical sensors for bioanalytical applications.
