The engine technique of modern Japan is on the top level of that of the world. This is understood when we see the prosperity of the automobile industry in Japan. Few people knows the fact that the first home-manufactured gasoline engine was produced by Narazo SHIMAZU 70 years ago. I intend to show the development of home-manufactured gasoline engine according to the chronological record of his career. On this report, I explain how N. SHIMAZU developed his gasoline engine from the technical point of view. The procedure of producing motorbicycles, cyclecars, airplanes by him is discussed, introducing several episodes how he sometimes failed in his attempt as a pioneer. I discuss N. SHIMAZU as a scholar and as an owner of an automobile school and factory of motor bicycles. After he became a technician in a company, he began the study of combustion chamber. According to his study, the original home-manufactured gasoline engine was begun to be produced in place of the copied one of other countries. I intend to show that his study had served the great role for home-manufactured gasoline engine to become an international one today.
