Physical chemistry had been rapidly rising mainly in Germany in the second half of the nineteenth century. Kikunae Ikeda (1864-1936 introduced it into Japan and devoted himself to the study about it. Anove all, the studies of chemical kinetics were one of the main theme for his life. For example, there are the device of the apparatus to measure hydrolysis velocity, the study of the poisoning of the colloidal platinum through poisons, studying with Georg Bredig (1868-1944) at Leipzig University in Germany for about two years from 1899 to 1901 and the study of the chemical kinetics of enzyme. Through these studies and introduction physical chemistry into Japan, K. Ikeda contributed to the development of physical chemistry, especially chemical kinetics in Japan.
