It can be interpreted from some of the pictorial materials on rituals that a major type of costume worn by the participants of the Nagoya Toshogu Shrine Festival was the Kosode, common clothing in the early modern period of Japan. Therefore, using the Hosa Library Collection's "Go-Sairei-Gyouretsu," a historical material on the parade of the Nagoya Tosyogu Shrine Festival in the middle edo-period, we focused on the costumes of the parade attendants, which in the past had been given little attention, and attempted to reproduce the Kosode. We chose the costumes of Shogimochi (a person carrying a portable chair) in Tokiwamachi as the object of reproduction. Because Shogimochi usually appeared in pairs with the main roles, we supposed that Shogimochi dominated the parade as a role that attracted a lot of attention and that its costume was the central costume of the parade attendants. The Shogimochi costume in Tokiwamachi was a Kosode-shaped costume with colors which appear frequently in the "Go-Sairei-Gyouretsu" as the colors of Shogimochi, namely blue turquoise, brick dust, and lump black. Therefore, we were able to consider the main shape and the colors of Shogimochi costume through this reproduction. As far as we know, costumes of the Kosode shape in Tokiwamachi have never been found to remain. Therefore, a complete reproduction was impossible. However, we report our process of a trial reproduction in a 1/7 size, conducted referring to pictorial materials and historical clothing ornaments of a closest date for shapes, sizes, colors, designs, and crests of the costumes. Through this reproduction, a taste of the Shogimochi costume was clarified, and the possibilities to exhibit figures adoring the costume were revealed.
