Tricresyl phosphate (TCP) is a material used as a component of the stationary phase in gas-chromatography (GC) columns. Owing to its gas/vapor interactivity the TCP seems to be a very promising coating material for quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) gas/odor sensors. Usually, the QCM sensor responds to presence of a sample by a negative shift of its frequency. However, regardless of the fabrication method, the QCMs fabricated using the TCP respond by a "negative" frequency shift. The phenomenon is being investigated in the present paper.
