Our group has for years been working on development and application of active odor-sensing systems using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors. The sensors are activated by coating with various films. In our recent work, we have been studying application of novel sensing structures composed of gold nanoparticles with chemisorbed lipopolymers and physisorbed, amphiphilic GC materials. The sensors fabricated using this method were characterized by exposures to odorants at sub-ppm level. The obtained results indicate outstanding odor-sensing performance of the sensors fabricated using proposed method.
