In maritime mobile satellite communications, receiving satellite signal level varies due to direction and motion of a ship. To compensate fluctuation of antenna directions, a satellite following system is used for a parabolic antenna on a ship. When a structure of the ship crosses the line between the antenna and the communicating satellite, the antenna stops transmitting for the satellite. Directivity of a parabolic antenna has certain spread. Thus it is needed to make some clearance between structures of the ship and antenna beam. It is important to estimate how structures of a ship affect on restriction of antenna direction and how much clearance actually needed for such situations. However, precise clearances between antenna beam and structures of a ship are not yet studied. In this report, the following two things are considered. Firstly when the beam of the transmitting antenna is towards a satellite, received levels by other antennas on the ship are calculated by numerical simulation. Secondary, received levels by other satellites are estimated by calculating a diffracted wave from square pillar which simulates a structure of a ship.
