In maritime mobile satellite communications, receiving satellite signal level varies due to direction and motion of a ship. Then the communications are sometimes interrupted, because the receiving satellite signal level decreases when the antenna is shadowed by the ship's body. Thus it is important to evaluate how qualities of satellite communications vary during ship operations. To avoid shadowing due to ship's body, sometimes two or more number of satellite communication antennas are used simultaneously. However, precise temporal level fluctuation during ship movement are not yet studied. In this report, to evaluate temporal variances of receiving satellite signal level of the ship in motion, modeling and numerical simulation were performed with considering the effect that the antenna was shadowed by the ship's body. In addition, effects of pitching, rolling and yawing were taken into accounting the calculations.
