A slice-based flash code is one of the most promising approaches to design a good flash code. In this approach, a block of cells is partitioned into smaller groups with s cells each of these are called slices. At any given point in time, a slice is empty, active or full. When a slice is active, it is assigned to one bit of the recorded data where the index and the value of the bit are encoded in the slice. In this paper, two new slice-based flash codes are introduced namely, uniform-compartment flash code and binary-indexed flash code. Furthermore, this paper will also show these new flash codes have lower write-deficiency compared to the existing slice-based flash codes in average-case scenario.
