This paper examines the roles of conceptual metaphors applied in business presentation. Conceptual metaphors work as a direction indicator that facilitates the audience's conceptual understanding. In this article, the persuading features of the conceptual metaphor utilization are reviewed, followed by a demonstrative analysis of conceptual metaphors appearing in business speeches. In the comparative study, a political speech will also be referred to as a reference. This paper will explore how conceptual metaphors work to highlight and/or downplay a specific aspect of the topic, and how the audience's conceptual understanding is facilitated or even easily manipulated by the persuasive power of metaphors.
