Anti-inflammatory and analgesic principles contained in Armeniaceae Semen "kyonin," Pruni Japonicae Semen "ikurinin" and almond seeds were examined. Three globulins, KR-A (kyonin globulin), IR-A (ikurinin globulin) and AR-A (almond globulin) and three albumins, KR-B (kyonin albumin), IR-B (ikurinin albumin) and AR-B (almond albumin) were obtained from the water soluble fractions of "kyonin," "ikurinin" and almond seeds, respectively. The molecular weights of KR-A, IR-A, AR-A, KR-B, IR-B and AR-B were estimated by gel-filtration to be 300,000, 300,000, 330,000, 16,000, 13,000 and 12,000, respectively. The amino acid compositions of these globulins were characterized by their high glutamine (and glutamic acid), arginine and asparagine (and aspartic acid) contents, while these albumins were mainly composed of glutamine (and glutamic acid) and arginine, and differed from these globulins in that they contained a certain amount of sulfur-containing amino acids such as cysteine (and cystine) and methionine. Physico-chemical properties of these globulins and albumins were similar to those of the albumin and globulin (PR-A and PR-B) respectively, which were obtained from "tohnin" previously. These globulins and albumins showed a significant inhibitory activity on carrageenin-induced hind paw edema in rats, when injected intravenously, at the following doses: KR-A (40 mg/kg), IR-A (20 mg/kg), AR-A (0.5 mg/kg) , KR-B (5 mg/kg) , IR-B (0.5 mg/kg) and AR-B (0.5 mg/kg). They also showed a significant anti-writhing activity when injected intravenously in mice; KR-A (5 mg/kg), IR-A (5 mg/kg), AR-A (5 mg/kg), KR-B (5 mg/kg), IR-B (5 mg/kg), and AR-B (0.5 mg/kg). The anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of AR-A and AR-B were almost the same as those of PR-A and PR-B.
