Since approximately 60 percent of the students at Wakayama National College of Technologylive in the dormitory, the vitality of our college students is directly linked to that of the dormitoryboarders. Thus we attempted to improve the health of the boarders through dietary modifications.In order to make a habit of eating breakfast slowly on a seat, we changed the staple morning foodfrom bread to rice. As a result, after a temporary decline in the number of students who turn up forbreakfast, the number recovered and has been increasing steadily. Next, after we introduced asystem of choosing from two menus for breakfast, lunch and supper, we have obtained severaleffects. For example, the students get up earlier than before, the kitchen apparatus is utilized moreefficiently, and the meals are more often offered at the right temperatures. In addition, we have alsoseen a decrease in tardiness and absence.
