• The purpose of this study is to explore how skilled workers use intuition and tips, particularly focusing on the distribution of work time. Work study was conducted at middle-and-small-class shipbuilding company Z. The results demonstrate that the work time distributions are different between the workplace respectively. The times for operation configure the main component of the work time. In addition, the ANOVA results shows that workplace affect the distribution of work time significantly at the 1 ％ level. Surprisingly, workers do not affect the distributions. Intuition is not belonged to a person, but to a workplace. In concluding, we should note that workers' intuition in the workplace appear in their operation work and inspection work. It is resulted from the cause originated by the production technology, and other workplace- specific circumstances. And to succeed the intuition, training for each workplace is required.
