This paper reports on an advanced-level Japanese oral communication class that used a television conference system connecting two campuses. Halfway through this class, a questionnaire survey concerning the use of a television conference system was conducted. The results revealed that 1) participants felt either uneasy or interested during their first experience with television conference systems; 2) while many participants mentioned convenience as an advantage of this system, the delay in audio transmission and lack of vividness were mentioned as the drawbacks of this system; and 3) some participants adjusted the pitch of their voice and size of letters written on the whiteboard for the benefit of participants at the other campus.
