The Purpose of this study is to ascertain "Why occupational therapists justify the infringement of a client's autonomy by reason of physiatrist's prescription." Occupational therapists are professionals which play a role in medical rehabilitation, and they are in position to obtain informed consent from clients directly. However, the motive to give priority to job execution responsibility based on the physiatrist's prescriptions is a course of duty that takes precedence over the client's autonomy. This study will consider what measures occupational therapists take to advocate clients' autonomy. We think an ethics education which aims to improve problem-solving capability for dilemmas is required in order that occupational therapists may protect the autonomous respect of clients and may promote independence as professionals.
