This paper reports an attempt at programming education for the general purpose computingon graphics processing units, which is called GPGPU, through a programming contest. GPGPUis state-of-the-art and very powerful parallel computing environments, but GPGPU is difficultto learn because of GPU's inherently parallel architecture. Students who are interested inGPGPU applied for a registration to the competition category in the national programmingcontest for college of technologies, and have conducted learning GPGPU and developing theprogram for the competition. The implemented program by the students is surprisingly highlevel and skillful. Moreover the program is stuck with the basics. This reveals that aneducation through a programming contest is fairly useful.
