By using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics with Gogny effective interaction, the low-lying spectrum and the E2 transition rates of ^<24>Mg are studied. On the basis of the comparison of the spectrum with observations, the importance of γ deformation in both positive- and negative-parity states is emphasized. Among the seven bands obtained, K^π = 2^+, 0^- and 3^- bands are triaxial deformed, and the inclusion of the degree of freedom of γ deformation is found to be essential to describe them.
