This paper shows the feasibility study of the high performance small spaceborne SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) for 500kg-class small satellite. The target is 200kg class SAR mission module, which is mounted on 300kg class satellite bus and expected to achieve the comparably high performance to the mid sized or one ton class commercial SAR satellites. As the result of the study, the following parameters are selected. The frequency band is X-band for the small antenna and the high resolution. The antenna size would be about 3 m diameter for the small mass and the high performance. The highest resolution is expected to be less than 1m, which is close to TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed. The swath is 10km at the highest resolution observation mode, which is also close to or wider than that of commercial satellites.
