Energy Management System (EMS) is a new application in the technical field of network and communication systems. As for now, there is no communication platforms which enable to control energy based on exchanges among all actors such as consumers, utility company, energy resources, and so on. The new platform requires technology of network and communication systems including smart grid. In response to this demand, four organizations have been discussing application protocols for EMS. We show that their targets are very similar both in technical and market aspects based on survey on these standard drafts, and discuss our challenges toward the new applications.
