• Recently, heavy rainfall and large earthquake lengthen the restoration term of earth work structures such as road embankment. This results from the constraint conditions at disaster sites, for example restriction of schedule and of material acquisition. And increasing size of earth work structures makes it difficult to deal with the restoration by usual methods. This editorial describes the characteristics of recent road embankment damages and restoration methods, fundamental thoughts of the restoration in Road Earth Work Manual, and future problems of the restoration countermeasures.
