The rig-testing of turbochargers involves two distinct types of test, i.e. development and production. In production testing, turbocharger is put into self-running and overspeeded in such a way that fuel oil is supplied to the air flow discharged from the compressor of its own turbocharger and this combustion gas is led to the turbine. Its principal object is to ascertain reliability and security of construction of the unit after its completion. In case of such a production test rig,only a starting blower of rather small capacity is necessary, therefore cost of construction is comparatively low. However, in order to get, by such a test rig, information on component performance of turbocharger over the whole range of air flow, special treatment is required. On. this paper, means of testing and calculating method for estimating the working points are treated, and as an example, one of the test results is also reported.
