The purpose of this paper is to design an approximate straight line mechanism using genetic algorithm. In this case, a lever crank mechanism is treated like the Hoekens linkage. The parameters i.e. link lengths are explored that may improve the degree of straight line of locus on one point of the mechanism, drawn while the crank rotates 180 degrees. From the viewpoint of the defined fitness function, the parameters of more excellent mechanism are obtained than the Hoekens linkage. It is shown that genetic algorithm is an effective method solving this kind of problems.
