A screening test for cytotoxic activities, as a preliminary research of anti-tumor compounds, was carried out on the extracts (total 526 extracts) of animal and plant crude drugs. One hundred and four extracts from 37 kinds of medicinal animals were assayed with 10 cloned tumor cells in vitro. Simultaneously, 422 extracts from 122 kinds of herbal drugs were subjected to screening test with HeLa-S_3 cell. The results were shown as IC_<50> values.
