There was a hidden ritual of the Tendai sect that was performed against Chigo in the middle ages of Japan.Such ritual was called "Chigo-Kwan-Jo" and is Kwan-Jo (initiation) ceremony attracting attention in medieval literature study in recent years.Chigo who finished Chigo-Kwan-Jo was considered to change from a boy as human body to the same existence as Kannon-Bosatsu helping all human beings with mercy. And there was a custom that when a human (Buddihist monk) had a lust, he had a sexual relationship with Chigo who had received Chigo-Kwan-Jo.Preceding studies refer only a part of aspect of Chigo-Kwan-Jo by respective approach. However, such studies have not essentially clarified Chigo-Kwan-Jo, and it is still unclear what ceremony Chigo-Kwan-Jowas.This report tries to organize several texts for the basics of the study of Chigo-Kwan-Jo.
