When the water infiltrates the bank during flooding, landslides can be triggered. We conducted analogue experiments simulating this situation using a wet sand and a small-scale tank and studied the whole process leading to the landslide. In the experiments, we changed the degree of liquid saturation (S) of the wet sand. For S=95, landslide was triggered in less than 10 seconds, resulting in a rotational slide. However, for 20<S<40, more than 100 seconds were needed for triggering, and collapsing was observed. We find that for this range of S, the yield stress become nearly 2 orders of magnitude larger than that of the dry sand. Our experiments demonstrate that S is an important parameter govering the style and the time-scale of the landslide in wet granular materials.
