This paper examines cultural and clinical factors in human services for Asian immigrants and refugees living in the United States. In review of the growing awareness of cultural factors in mental health service delivery for Asians, this article focuses on culturally congruent and appropriate services for them. Examined are issues in (1) the history of immigration of Asian immigrants and refugees in the United States, (2) the cultural awareness in human services for Asian clients, and (3) the intervention strategy for the development of mental health services for Asian immigrants and refugees. The United States has a long history of accepting immigrants and refugees from Asian countries. There is a recognized need for mental health services for these people which will help them with their social adjustment in American society. Suggestions are made for improving the mental health service delivery system and for developing community-based mental health service care for Asian clients.
