To clarify the damage accumulation mechanism of Co-Cr alloys exposed to simultaneous corrosion and wear in sodium chloride, we developed a new tribo-corrosion system and then evaluated corrosion wear characteristics of the alloys with special attention focused on the effects of scratching rate on repassivation behavior. In corrosion wear environment, higher scratching rate prevented regeneration of passive films on worn surfaces. In contrast, as compared with the conventionally polished samples, the samples ground by a new electrical grinding technique (EG-X) showed higher corrosion wear resistance.
