船の操縦性における実船・模型の相関に関する一考察

Among various problems on manoeuvrability of ships, ship-model correlation or scale effect of hydrodynamic performances can be regarded as one of the most important practical problems. As a possible step towards solving the problem of ship-model manoeuvring correlation, an extensive consideration has been given to the component factors which come in contact with the flow. A wake correlation factor e_i was introduced and an evaluation of the characteristics of a full-scale ship was made by estimating not only the difference of rudder effectiveness but also the variation of the manoeuvring derivatives with e_i. The method was applied in the case of five tanker forms having rather blunt and full bodies, where there had been some discrepancies between the model and ship characteristics. From these results, it can be said that an increase in e_i will cause a decrease in turning ability and course stability, while there is a tendency for the ratio of rudder moment to inertia, K/T, to remain almost the same for all the tested models. The ship-model correlation technique presented here is considered to be one of the most applicable method and by using a value of e_i based on accumulated data, the study of full-scale ship manoeuvrability will be made more accurately.
