Active layers of organic thin-film solar cells are usually very thin, thus, it is believedthat an optical confinement cannot have much effect. However, we obtained a largeimprovement on Jsc of polymer/fullerene [RR-P3HT/C60] solar cells by optical confinementeffects using device annealing treatments. It is well known, that annealing treatments of polymer/fullerene solar cells producethree major effects: (1) Increase of an exiton lifetime. (2) Improvement of transportproperties. (3) Increase of light absorption caused by increase in proportion of polymerorientation. As a result, solar cell characteristics are highly improved. However, this timewe found a fourth effect, (4) optical confinement. After the device annealing, Al surfacesbecame very rough by the polymer crystallization. As a result, the diffuse reflectionappeared in 600–700 nm. However, these spectra have not calculated the contribution ofP3HT absorption. We made a rough correction of this effect and showed the diffusereflection component in 450–650 nm. This wavelength region is an absorption region ofP3HT- C60 films and the effect is quite effective to improve cell performances.
