"Life is more than a line of Baudelaire's"-said Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and he really loved art before life. On his death by his own hand, they said it was the ideal-death of the failure who was unsuccessful in his literature. It is known to everybody that he suffered from so called neurasthenia. But, it was not without relations to his existential distress. And, his so called neurasthenia was psychosis like schizophrenia, as many psychiatrists indicated, no longer than neurosis. Nevertheless I feel no Praecoxgefuhl in his whole works. His mother's attack of schizophrenia, the special human-relations in his early life, and the complications in and out of the literary world-on these underground, threatened fundamentally the "vague anxiety" his literary existence, his essential value of his Da-sein. What let him strongly alter his literary style, and let him fail down, was called "on account of ill health" following Jaspers' pathography up to the present. But, I think it was inevitability of his literary distress. His fatalistic literary necessity which he had to turn towards his existential problem drived him into psychotic world.
