Author presents a method of determining the improved values of the stresses at nodes on the external boundary line of plane domain by employing nodal-displacements and stiffness matrices of the related elements, which are obtained by finite element method (FEM) using constant strain triangles for a plane stress analysis, and shows to determine the smoothed elastic-plastic boundary curves. It is shown that the discretization errors are decreased and the accuracy of the numerical results is improved, due to the smoothing of irregular and dispersed values of FEM results which include the errors influenced sensitively by the mesh pattern. It is laborious and time consuming to search out the necessary informations from the numerical results obtained by the elastic-plastic FEM analysis. To minimize the effort, the graphic data processing is the useful and essential tool. The author has made a system which is able to display graphically the specified informations by using the minimum and necessary input data. Furthermore, this system includes functions of smoothing the stress distribution in any cross section and displaying the smoothed elastic-plastic boundary curves to improve the accuracy and the practicability of FEM results.
