Trollope's The Last Chronicle of Barset was published originally in thirty-two weekly numbers, and later as two volumes. In writing a novel in parts, he usually strived to make each one "a whole". Upon careful reading of the novel, it turned out that in almost all the numbers he introduced some similar or contrasting action by the characters into each chapter in each number. The unity of each number he achieved will be wasted unless the novel is read in the weekly numbers, because there is almost no number division in the volume form. Even so he adhered to the unity just to satisfy the readers at that time. Due to the fact that the similar or contrasting action he introduced had little influence on the main plots, his adherence to the unity might be dismissed as unworthy of consideration. It should not be overlooked however that Trollope did his best to pursue "a whole" in The Last Chronicle of Barset.
