Amoung the 86 cases of esophageal atresia, 9 cases were complicated by the development of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS), and these 9 cases were all managed by gastrostomy with transpyloric jejunal (TPJ) feeds for a long time. Since 52 patients were managed with this type of treatment, the incidence of development of HPS in this group rose to 17%. Moreover the longer the management of this treatment, the higher the incidence of developent of HPS. Thirty two patients had more than 2 weeks of this treatment and 22% developed HPS. Twenty two patients had more than 4 weeks and 27% developed HPS, and 17 patients had more than 7 weeks and 35% developed HPS. The possible etiologic factors of development of HPS in our cases were discussed.
