In this paper, an optimization problem for allocating spare parts of MIME (multi indenture and multi echelon) systems is studied. We obtain the optimal numbers allocated at repair echelons minimizing the expected life cycle cost with target availability. In past decades, some analytical models have been developed for spare part allocation problems in multi echelon systems. However, the analytical models can be applied to limited cases. Thus, we use a simulation technique to obtain system availability and total life cycle cost. A genetic algorithm is proposed to find near optimal solutions and some numerical examples are studied.
