We have developed an electroless plating unit with IMHz-ultrasonic agitation to fabricate a near-field optical probe whose nickel film gradually decreases toward the tip. To optimize the depth of its circulating water bath for a plating bath with a volume of lOOmL, we plated a fiber probe by using two water baths with depths of 8cm and 23cm. As a result, electroless plating unit with a depth of 23cm is found to be much more effective than that with a small depth of 8cm in fabricating a near-field optical probe.
