This work is a part of research in developing a ultrasound-based nondestructive material characterization technique for tubes with inhomogeneous properties across the thickness. The paper presents a combined theoretical/experimental study on the propagation of guided waves in multi-layered cylinders. The theoretical model is based on a global matrix method for the modeling of dispersion relations, and the experimental works uses a laser ultrasound technique (LUT). Inversion techniques are employed to characterize the material properties of the tube as well. For benchmarked tubes with known properties, good agreement between theoretical calculations and experiments are obtained.
