This paper describes summarised results of full-scale measurements on various strength of four ships which have been carried out by Research Institute of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai as a part of the long term research programme since 1973. The unmanned measurements have been made on such items as longitudinal strength of a container carrier, local strength at slots of side and bottom transverses of an ore carrier, hold frames of a bulk carrier, transverse strength of a car carrier, etc. The results of the measurements have been compared with theoretical predictions obtained by a relevant structural analysis on each ship.
